Ingredients
  

  • 16 oz Northern beans Dried
  • 1 Onion Diced
  • 1 Ham hock or ham pieces Smoked
  • 10 cups Water Fill crockpot up with water
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning Or creole

Method
 

  1. The night before you cook your beans, cover with water and soak beans overnight in 8 cups of water. Water should cover beans about an inch
  2. Drain the water and rinse them well
  3. Add the ham hock, beans, onion, and seasonings to the slow cooker. Cover with water all the way to the top of the slow cooker.
  4. Cook on high for 5 hours or low for 10-12 hours
  5. Dutch Oven-
    If you are cooking your beans in a Dutch oven-- Add water and ham hock and bring it to a boil. Combine beans, onions, and seasonings
    Cover and simmer for 2 hours until beans are tender
